He is an Emeritus Professor of International Law and Human Rights at the University of Nottingham, and a barrister and mediator at Brick Court Chambers. He has worked in law firms in Australia and the United Kingdom.

With several major elections this year, including for the European Parliament on 6-9 June, this panel will focus on ensuring free and fair elections in the digital age. Matteo Mecacci is Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). He was previously President of the International Campaign for Tibet. He also headed the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission to Georgia in 2013. He was a Member of the Italian Parliament, Foreign Affairs Committee, and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

Roberta Metsola is President of the European Parliament. She was the Parliament’s First Vice-President and an active member in Parliamentary committees. She was the EPP Group’s Coordinator in the Civil Liberties, Justice, and Home Affairs Committee. She is a lawyer specialised in European law and politics.
